Meet Niamh Lewis, the artist

My practice traverses a range of artistic media, with a particular emphasis on liquid latex and oil painting. 

Through these materials, I seek to explore bodily anatomy and its relationship to female abjection by engaging the body as both subject and site of tension, vulnerability, and resistance.

The work is grounded in autobiography and draws upon my lived experience of inhabiting a sick female body. 

By incorporating found medical objects alongside latex and paint, I attempt to extend these personal narratives into physical space, allowing clinical materials to intersect with visceral, tactile surfaces.

Themes of mortality, illness, and female abjection are central to my practice and are informed by feminist and queer theory. These are the frameworks that shape both my conceptual approach and material decisions, enabling me to critically examine how illness and gender are constructed, experienced, and represented.
